Obama's Civilian National Security Force.

The Obama quote is, "We cannot continue to rely only on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives that we've set. We've got to have a civilian national security force that's just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded."

This was slipped into a speech addressing public service, and I'm going to have to confess that I'm dumbfounded. What in the world is he proposing? A non-military security force that is funded the same as the miltary? What are their powers and why are civilians being put in charge of national security? Why shouldn't we rely on our military to achieve national security objective? Isn't that's the whole reason for having a military. This needs some serious explaining. Any new government organization comparable in size and funding to the military would need explaining, but a civilian national security force is radical and illogical.

I have been adding this same tid-bit to a lot of my commentaries. Why it has not been suitably questioned, still baffles me. I consider it as suggesting a 'Barack Fedayeen', or a form of SA or SS, parallelling government, a form of 'operational executive', or clearly a policy police that would excede even the Palmer Raids.
Glad to see someone else is as alarmed as I am..

Thanks Shawmut - You know I've put this on a few different blogs and almost every one has a different take on what a 'civilian national security force' would be. One person thought it would consist of arming civilians; another thought it would be a sort of CIA spin off; another take was that it would be a big brother type of operation; one thought it was a way of disarming the military; and the most optomistic view was that it was just a way to promote civic responsibilty.

I don't have the foggiest idea what what Obama means by a 'civilian national security force', but if it's going to be the same size as the military I certainly hope someone asks him about it.
